The Blue Stone
"Vi møtes ved den blå steinen"
= Let's meet at the blue stone
This is a phrase all people from Bergen know.
This is a meeting place and a bustling area, where you'll always find people. Some are waiting for someone, while others are passing through the city. It’s busy at all times of the day, throughout the year.

The History
The artist Asbjørn Andersen created this piece, and it was gifted to the municipality of Bergen by the "O. Kavli and Knut Kavli Charitable Fund" on March 27, 1993, in connection with the 100th anniversary of Kavli.

The "Stone" consists of a concrete core, covered with heavy slabs of blue gneiss called Azul Bahia, sourced from Brazil. The stone sculpture stands on a stone platform, which in turn rests on a solid stone surface made of pink granite and gneiss with pink details. King Olav V's Square was designed by landscape architect Arne Sælen.
